Research Degree M.Phil, Ph.d.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Research degrees are sponsored by Leo Baeck College and awarded by the Open University.

ENTRY CRITERIA

Admissions to the Research Degree programme are held by the College’s Research Degree Committee and follow the guidelines of the Open University. These include:


An upper second class honours degree from a UK university or the equivalent in a relevant subject area, or a postgraduate master’s degree from a UK University or the equivalent, in a relevant subject area.


Candidates are accepted following a written application, a research proposal, curriculum vitae, record of studies, two referees, relevant experience and an interview.  (For further details about requirements please refer to the College’s Admissions’ Policy and the College’s Code of Practice regarding Research Degree Programmes).

DURATION:

The length of studies for full-time and part-time students on the Ph.D. and M.Phil.  programmes are as follows:


Full-time students are required to study:

  • A minimum of one year and three months for an M.Phil. up to a maximum of four years.

  • A minimum of two years for a Ph.D. up to a maximum of four years.

   

Part-time students are required to study:

  • A minimum of two years for an M.Phil. up to a maximum of six years. 

  •  A minimum of three years for a Ph.D. up to a maximum of six years.
