Dr Laliv Clenman is Lecturer in Rabbinic Literature at Leo Baeck College. A specialist in Rabbinics and Hebrew and Aramaic language and literature, she is particularly interested in the multiplicity, diversity and development of rabbinic law and in the complex relationship between halakhah and aggadah. Her research focuses on problems of identity and status, including intermarriage, gender, sexuality, the construction of Jewishness and the impact of halakhah on the individual. Her work on the classical sources is conducted in view of ongoing modern legal issues in Judaism and Jewish communities. She is committed to innovative pedagogy and has taught Introductory and Intermediate Biblical Hebrew at the University of Toronto, as well as specialized Talmud and midrash shi’urs and Modern Hebrew in a variety of settings.
