Rabbi Dr Michael Hilton read Classics and English at Oxford University
in the 1970s and stayed on to complete his doctorate on translations of
the Anacreontea. He worked with homeless families for Hammersmith and
Fulham council before beginning his training for the rabbinate at LBC.
In 1987 he was appointed Rabbi of Menorah Synagogue, Manchester, which
he served for 11 years. He was two years at North London Progressive
Synagogue before becoming Rabbi of Kol Chai Hatch End Jewish Community
in 2001.
Rabbi Hilton is an Honorary Research Fellow of the Centre for Jewish
Studies at Manchester University and is the author of /The Gospels and
Rabbinic Judaism/ (with Gordian Marshall, 1988) and /The Christian
Effect on Jewish Life/ (1994). He has been rabbinic tutor to several
LBC students and for five years chaired the college's "Partners in
Leadership" team, working to improve relationships in congregations.
