Community of Learners
A Programme in Adult Jewish Learning held at your local synagogue and the Sternberg Centre
The Community of Learners is about the opportunity to:
- learn more about Judaism
- explore the Jewish faith
- find ways of expressing oneself through Jewish culture
- affirm one’s Jewish identity
- relate the tradition, history and literature to one’s daily life
- make informed choices
- study and grow together with other participants
COURSE OVERVIEW
The Community of Learners is about the opportunity to:

No specific prerequisite knowledge is needed. No Hebrew is required.
The Community of Learners is a programme consisting of three modules:
THE LIVING TRADITION
Provides an overview of how the Jewish sources evolved and developed from biblical to modern times. The texts are looked at in their historical context and in relation to each other and the learner.
JEWISH LIVING
Explores what it means to belong to the Jewish people, to believe in Jewish principles and values and to behave as Progressive Jews.
JEWISH AND MODERN
Analyses the background to the founding of the Reform and Liberal movements. The use of original Biblical, Talmudic and modern sources are used to help understand the development of Progressive Judaism in our lives.
DURATION: Eight Sessions per module (16 hours)
ENTRY CRITERIA: Foundation and Intermediate levels of Jewish Learning
